The Swallows Café
The Brief
A new cafe in Guernsey, on the beautiful grounds of Les Cotils hotel, with the ethos of ‘coffee, community, connection’. The Swallows was envisioned as a place where all members of the community could enjoy the stunning sea views and gardens, eat locally sourced, fresh dishes, and catch up over coffee with friends.
The Swallows needed branding that was approachable and delightful. They also needed something that would go with and build upon the existing artistic direction - the only piece of visual identity already decided on was the beautiful pink & green floral wallpaper below the counter, and the pink & green tea sets.
The Solution
I worked with the new decoration of the cafe to produce assets that elevated the colour scheme and wallpaper into intentional and memorable brand design.
The color palette was pulled directly from the cafe's signature floral wallpaper to ensure the menus, print accessories and signage felt like a natural extension of the room. The Swallows icon, a larger and smaller bird, was created to symbolise family and coming together. The cutout within the body and organic shape was made to compliment the petals and leaves within the wallpaper.
Inspiration was taken from the tea cups for the header of the menus, to incorporate the same cylindrical shapes at the base of the crockery. These shapes also served as sort of a visual nod to a vintage market stall banner - an homage to being a small, local business, serving delicious homemade treats.
